Following the giant footsteps of Bonnaroo, this year the monster known as Sasquatch -- the music festival, not the actual creature -- revealed its lineup in an unusual way. Whereas Bonnaroo took to social networking sites for their announcement, Sasquatch took to the old fashioned social experience known as the rock concert. During a special "launch party" at the Crocodile in Seattle, Wash. on Monday, the festival announced details for their 2010 event amidst live sets by Surfer Blood, Atlas Sound and hometown heroes, Fresh Espresso. Curiously, those bands were not included in the initial announcement itself. As always, Sasquatch will take place at the Gorge in George, Wash. during Memorial Day weekend. It was already reported, correctly, that indie rock heroes Pavement (pictured) will headline. As the full lineup reveals, the old guard will be joined by the new guard: My Morning Jacket, MGMT and Vampire Weekend. They will be accompanied by a veritable indie rock front line that includes the National, Broken Social Scene, the Hold Steady, Band of Horses, the xx, Dirty Projectors, Passion Pit, Miike Snow and others. Ween will fly the freak flag while Public Enemy will hold down the rap slot. The lineup does not weaken from there -- add Tegan & Sara, LCD Soundsystem and Massive Attack for starters. The complete list and ticket info will soon be posted at the official website.
It's pretty much a dream lineup for indie kids. But if you don't think that dreams can become reality at Sasquatch, you should revisit that infamous YouTube from last year's fest that went viral in the months afterward. No, not the sex one, although those kids lived the dream, too. But we mean the one with the dude who single-handedly started a dance revolution -- check it out, here. Maybe it's time to start planning your summer kick-off.
