Tegan and Sara Take Requests, Rework Songs at Intimate Brooklyn Gig

Tegan and Sara treated their New York fans with a drumless set of reinterpretations of their "well-worn album versions" in Brooklyn, N.Y. on Monday night. The pair turned a rare off-day into a seated intimate show in a venue they outgrew a few albums back. The fresh versions of fan favorites seemed to be a hit for the sold-out crowd, which waited for hours for the doors to open to ensure a prime view with the first-come, first-serve seating arrangement. "We are going to play songs that we haven't played in years, so don't judge us, yet" Tegan Quin said before opening with 'Divided,' the opening track of their 1999 debut album, 'Under Feet Like Ours.'
Packed with witty banter and the stories behind the songs, the duo delivered beyond expectations with a two-and-a-half hour set and even took requests from the crowd, including Sara's trial-and-error version of Bruce Springsteen's 'Dancing in the Dark.' "We decided, quite spontaneously to offer an opportunity for some of you to spend an intimate night with us at the Music Hall of Williamsburg," said Tegan, as she proceed to share a story about a disastrous Valentine's Day manicure with her girlfriend.
The request segment was followed by a fan Q&A. "I hope you learned more about us tonight," said Tegan Quin before wrapping up with a venue-wide sing along of 'Call It Off' with the house lights on.
