Here We Go Magic Interview: SXSW 2010
- Posted on Feb 17th 2010 3:10PM by Rachel Sanzone
It's been a big year for Here We Go Magic following the release of their celebrated self-titled debut. Now they have their sights firmly set on 2010 with a new album, a new record label and an ever-expanding sound. Having just signed to Secretly Canadian, the band is targeting spring of 2010 to release their follow-up to 2009's breakthrough record. Spinner caught up with the band before they head off to SXSW to chat about rhythm, dirt and gold flakes. What's your biggest vice?
Dirt.
What's your musical guilty pleasure?
Coldplay's 'Speed of Sound.'
What's the craziest thing you've seen or experienced while on tour?
Watching a tractor-trailer flip over.
What's in your festival survival kit?
Gold flakes for trading, one thimble of the wise old apes magic milk, second faze cream and one little guy.
Before you start rocking out, do you have a ritual you do?
It used to be a whole bunch of whiskey leading up to the show, but now I prefer jumping jacks.
If you had to give up music what would you do to be creative?
Paint and maybe get into making movies.
What has been your biggest challenge as a band? Have you overcome it?
Figuring out everyone's rhythms. We are always getting closer by virtue of repetition.
Who would be in your ultimate music supergroup, your all-star Olympic team of rock?
The Wailers.
