Sir Elton John Says 'Jesus Was Gay'

Sir Elton John has claimed that Jesus Christ was a homosexual during an interview with a US magazine.

The singer told Parade magazine, "I think Jesus was a compassionate, super-intelligent gay man who understood human problems.

"Jesus wanted us to be loving and forgiving. I don't know what makes people so cruel. Try being a gay woman in the Middle East -- you're as good as dead."

The comment has already led to a flood of posts on Twitter, with some respondents angry at what they perceive as Sir Elton's denigration of Jesus.

The 62-year-old singer is now likely to join a host of stars who have been denounced as blasphemers by fundamentalist Christians in America. Beatles records were burned publicly in the 1960s after John Lennon told a journalist, "We're more popular than Jesus now." The Fab Four also received death threats from the Ku Klux Klan in the wake of Lennon's comments.

Both Madonna and Jay-Z have come under fire for using Christ-like figures in their videos while heavy bands Judas Priest and AC/DC have frequently been denounced as Satanists.

Mindful of the consequences of fame and the problems that it brings, Sir Elton also spoke of the murders of John Lennon and designer Gianni Versace.

"Two of them shot outside their houses. None of this would have happened if they hadn't been famous. Fame attracts lunatics," he said.

"I never had a bodyguard ever until Gianni died. I don't like celebrity anymore.'"

Feel sorry for Elton

If Elton John* is so burdened by fame and so worried about his own safety why doesn't he stop appearing on chat shows making dangerous and inflamatory remarks about issues which provoke outrage among both mainstream and fringe christian groups. In fact as his career is almost over he could disappear from the limelight altogether and revert to being Reg Dwight.

By making these statements he by his own folly is making himself a target for every fundamentalist group or extremist individual, and only a fool would do that but then he sums it up succinctly in the passage above

"Fame attracts lunatics" I agree and it holds whether they be Gay or Straight

*and before anyone corrects me with "Sir" I don't hold with patronage

These people think because they are famouse (excuss me while I stop laughing) can say what they. He/she is a sir, this should be removed. The queen (not elton john) is the protecktor of the faith so let her protect it. It is rare for me to agree with the Archbishop of Canturbury, but it is time the Christian church stood up and protect it self.

first question is if jesus ever lived? as we know there are no eyewitness historical records of him.

if he really lived, he could have been the lover of mary magdalen, or of any/many of his disciples.

he could have been celebate, but why would a man like him choose to be celebate?

Well, Ed, it was admittedly a pretty daft remark, which might have best been left to being expressed at a dinner party, rather than in an interview.... However, it does speak volumes about the public when it becomes "any old excuse" to revisit the pro/anti gay debate; the pro/anti Christianity debate, or indeed anyone who wants to bang their particular drum on any subject....

I have opinions about medicine; yet did not go to med-school.....Perhaps we should remember that Sir Elton is a musician rather than a theologian, and leave it at that!

As Seinfeld says " Not that there is anything wrong with that!" Some may think Gay relationships (Jesus and John?)are sinful. If so, how do they violate Jesus' definition of sin (Matthew 22:36-40) - failure to love our neighbor...in any way!

It's okay folks, he's just doing a kate price and leam G stunt. So desparate for attension he's willing to say anything disgraceful to be noticed. It's the latest craze. The has-been, sad one's acting youvenille to get litterally any attension possible no matter how horrible it may be. you just have to feel sorry for them.
