Muse Speak Out Against Warner Withdrawal From Streaming Services

In the wake of Warner Music announcing they will stop licensing their artists' tracks to free streaming services such as Spotify, Muse, one of Warners biggest-selling acts, have come out against the idea.

Muse bassist Chris Wolstenhome expressed his disappointment at the prospect of Warner's plans going ahead.

"It's like taking your song off the radio isn't it?" he said. "You're instantly taking your song away from a group of potential listeners."

Wolstenhome also emphasised that such initiatives as these are not being instigated by the bands themselves.

"The corporations are setting the rules on these things because they're clutching at straws," he said. "I do sometimes feel that this whole restriction that's been set on how your music can get out there these days doesn't ever really come from the bands. It's coming from the corporations behind everything.

"As far as bands are concerned you just want people to hear your music whichever way they can."

Warner Music CEO Edgar Bronfman last week said that free streaming services are "clearly not net positive for the industry" and "is not the kind of approach to business we will be supporting in the future."

Other artists who will be unavailable on Spotify, Last.fm, Grooveshark and the like include R.E.M., the Flaming Lips and Madonna.

Today there are many top most streaming sites providing video streaming facility. It is very helpful for the people fond of watching online videos as it saves time. The benefit of streaming is that there is no need to wait or download a file to play it. Instead, the media/content is sent in a continuous stream of data and it is directly played as it arrives.I use to search videos daily but now i am relieved.

how about fans paying for the product musicians manufacture like every other product in this country--after they get the freebee--there's enough blame to go around

If these bands weren't so terrible, people might care what they have to say.

Come on... Are you really going to sit there and say that the band Muse is not a good band? If you don't care for their sound or their lyrics then fine, but that doesn't make them a bad band. Their are all insanely talented and their sold out shows prove it. Matthew Bellamy (Guitarist and singer) has been said to be the Jimi Hendrix of this generation. Muse is considered to be the best live band in the world right now. They have sold millions of albums. They win awards everywhere in Europe... If you don't like their music... Fine! Not going to argue that. Do not even try to suggest that they are not a good band though.
I don't care for country music, but I don't think Rascall Flats are a bad and untalented band. I just don't get into their music. See the difference?

Labels DO NOT sign acts based on recouping, they sign acts because the label, for whatever reasons, has become convinced that the act can and will sell records. True, costs are incurred but recouping costs is not the mission, objective or goal when signing an act. Costs WILL be recouped because the act will not see a dime UNTIL the cost outlays are recouped.

Music Lover band guy

FYI..Some musicians can absolutely post up their tunes on the awesome Youtube but, some record companies do not allow (Warner Bros/Reprise) their bands music on that said awesome sight. I am a Warner Bros artist and that decision kills my soul quite a bit. So, to the comment that "musicians are lazy and stupid", we are stupid for not listening to our parents to get a job, stupid for lifting all of our gear in and out of a van after getting paid $300 to $$5000 a night for a 1 hour gig but, WE ARE LIVING THE DREAM. Music is life.

Warner Music is no longer owned by AOL Time Warner. The music division was sold off several years ago and bought by independent investors, among them, Edgar Bronfman Jr.
