Vampire Weekend's Rostam Batmanglij Comes Out

Rostam Batmanglij, keyboardist for chart-topping New York band Vampire Weekend, has confirmed to Out magazine that he's gay. Speaking to the publication, Batmanglij spoke about introducing homosexual perspectives into some of his songs, as evidenced by the 'Contra' track 'Diplomat's Son.'Batmanglij calls it "a six-minute dancehall song about a gay relationship," but his POV also informs 'I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend,' a song he penned for Discovery, his side project with Ra Ra Riot's Wes Miles that he describes as "a gay pop song."
Counting Dirty Projectors' Angel Deradoorian on vocals, Batmanglij said tunes like 'Boyfriend' should be part of his future canon. "With that song I was having fun, but at the same time it was honest -- those lyrics are meaningful to me, they come from my heart," he explained. "I was disappointed when it didn't become a gay anthem, but, you know, it's not too late."
