Kyle Gass of Tenacious D fame released his "other" band Trainwreck's first studio album, 'The Wreckoning,' in December 2009, but don't go thinking this is another comedy act. "We're the real deal. We'll kick your ass," Gass tells Spinner. Trainwreck's out to prove it with a US tour that launches in Long Beach, Calif., on Feb. 27. "I'm taking it to the road. I'd like to visit every city in the United States. We have 15 booked, so how many left are there? Maybe we'll just hit the bigger markets then," he deadpans.Trainwreck, which Gass describes as "A classic rock situation. It's a bit southern rock, too," started in 2002, when the D took a break due to partner Jack Black's busy movie schedule. "We did a live record a few years ago but we didn't like it, so this is our big day-butt," Gass says of 'The Wreckoning.' "I think that was backwards, I'm going to say ass-backwards. We came up with new songs, so this is the one. This is what I want to be buried with. They should put it in a time capsule. This is the one that should change the way we listen to music."
As it's hard to fully realize a wig and costume-wearing alter ego on a record, the way to listen to Trainwreck is live for full visual impact. "And I'm so good looking, you really want to see me. Why is it? Genes? I don't know what it is."
As far as our handsome rock god's acting career goes, Gass says things have been quiet lately, which has opened the door for Trainwreck to stretch its wings. "I 'm pretty sure Hollywood has turned its back on me," he says. "I don't know what I've done wrong. I wasn't nice to the Mayor of Hollywood or something, but I am pitching a Trainwreck TV series. It's about a band on the road, but -- check it out -- we also solve crimes. It's like 'Scooby Doo' meets 'CSI' meets 'The Monkees.' Are you feeling it?"
