Pickle Beats Nickelback in Facebook Showdown

What's the difference between a pickle and Nickelback's Chad Kroeger? One is a wrinkled old thing that has been preserved well past its sell by date, is inexplicably popular and leaves sour taste in the mouth and the other is ... well, you get the idea.

Forget the Beatles vs. the Stones, Biggie vs. Tupac, or Blur vs. Oasis, Facebook users have chosen their sides in the latest great rock 'n' roll face-off -- and they've picked the pickle. A music fan (we assume) named Coral Anne set up the Facebook group 'Can this pickle get more fans than Nickleback?'s' (the misspelling is deliberate) in early February and on the 19th received the definitive answer 'yes!'

Currently the pickle (that's an American style pickled cucumber, rather than our British pickled onion -- clearly Nickelback are much more popular than those) has almost 1.5m fans, while the Canadian post-grunge plodders have less than 1.42m online acolytes.

It seems that Kroeger hasn't exactly seen the funny side of the frat rock vs. sour treat showdown, reportedly posting a threatening "your page will be closing in two weeks" on the pickle campaign's wall.

Anne's response was a well-earned: "I still whooped your ass, Chad! :)"

While Spinner salutes the salty snack's success, we can't help worry that this victory might go to its head. Next thing you know the pickle will be releasing countless singles that sound remarkably like each other and playing to hockey stadiums full of jocks all over America...

this is old news. There was another group called can this pickle get more fans than justin bieber?, obviously the pickle won. They also then defeated miley cyrus and the jonas brothers before the group was removed by facebook.

This is so stupid, Of course people are going to choose the pickle, The joke wouldn't be funny if they didn't! I don't care what other people think is "cool" I like Nickleback, I don't give a rats ass what everyone else likes or doesn't like!

What makes this priceless is the post he put on her wall. The douche was actually angry that some girl figured out how to get a pickle more fans. Real mature. I don't like Pickleback to begin with but I'll never give them a 2nd chance.

LOL!!!!! I have been calling them Picklecrack for a long time. The Irony...This is one of those bands that people with no musical taste listens to. Thats a fact.

Why the hell is everyone against Nickelback? I can think of helluvalot worse bands than them! And Chad Kroeger has better things to do with his life (like laughing all the way to the bank) besides fighting with the sad person who made this page. It's one of the NUMEROUS Chad Kroeger fan pages, AOL. Get your facts straight.
