Radiohead fans that aren't planning on making the trip to Indio, Calif., for Coachella 2010 can breathe easy. Frontman Thom Yorke has announced eight April dates with his non-Radiohead band, starting with two nights on April 5 at New York's Roseland Ballroom. From there, they'll hit Boston, Chicago and Oakland before wrapping up in Santa Barbara on April 17. Tickets will go on sale next week via Waste and Ticketmaster locations.Once billed as ????, Yorke has renamed his band the Atoms for Peace and it still features the group he debuted last October: Flea, Mauro Refosco, Joey Waronker and Nigel Godrich. Flying Lotus, who recently worked with Yorke, will support on all dates.
It's assumed that Yorke is still primarily focusing on playing material from his 2008 solo debut, 'The Eraser,' but new tunes such as 'Open the Floodgates' and 'Skirting on the Surface made their way into that L.A. set. With the amount of time they've had off, it's fun to think that more new songs will materialize.
Radiohead recently took a break from recording and performed a Haiti benefit at L.A.'s Music Box Theatre, playing a full set that included one new song, 'Lotus Flower,' which had previously been a part of the Yorke solo set.
