Broken Bells' 'The High Road' Gets Put to the Test With Panel of Kids
- Posted on Mar 1st 2010 11:00AM by Benjy Eisen
Some know-it-all indie kids claim that the formation of Broken Bells -- a super-duo comprised of James Mercer (the Shins) and Danger Mouse (Gnarls Barkley) -- comes as little surprise. But to everyone else, the collaboration comes as a total coup. In this promotional video, the first for Broken Bell's upcoming self-titled debut, a panel of expert judges aren't even aware that the two men conducting their focus group are actually Mercer and Mouse themselves. The judges listen to the album and must decide if each track gets a "pass" or a "fail." There's just one thing you should probably know about the judges -- and it's not that they all have charming English accents. Check out the clip for the first single, 'The High Road,' after the jump and you'll see what we mean.

The boy on the left is tomorrow's Simon Cowell.
He had solid reasons for not liking the song.
They should listen to him.
LOVE High Road - Even though I could get it free, I wanted to pay for it! Love Ya

Waiting for the special box that I ordered, even though it would have been easy to get the album for free. It was on Grooveshark even when the single came out and now they even tell you to get it for free in e-mails, referring to My SPace. It´s so easy to rip the music from a stream. But I just wanted to buy the music. Hey, I didn´t even get the free download of High Road as promised when I preordered the box. Had to rip that one from the homepage. Not easy to pay for music these days!

When the heck are the Shins going to put out another album?? It's been 3 years now! I'm dying for more Shins. I know half the band is gone but still, why put them on hold as Mercer has? They're the greatest indie rock band around (in my opinion). I don't mind side projects - and I hope this is a good one - but I don't think Mercer should abandon the Shins altogether, they've been getting better and better with each album and 3 is not enough!!
