Joanna Newsom to Headline Green Man Festival 2010
- Posted on Mar 1st 2010 10:03AM by James Lawrenson
Joanna Newsom as been announced as the second headliner for this year's Green Man festival, to be held from Aug. 20 to 22.She will headline Sunday night (Aug. 22), closing out the Welsh festival. She joins the Flaming Lips, who were already announced as Saturday night's headliner. It's a festival Newsom knows well, having performed there in 2004, 2005 and 2007. Her set will presumably draw heavily on material from new record 'Have One On Me', and its three discs of harp and piano led meanderings.
Also added to the festival line-up are the Mercury Prize nominated The Unthanks, and Stockholm's harmonising siblings, First Aid Kit. According to YouTube their cover of 'Tiger Mountain Peasant Song' (originally by Fleet Foxes) has over a million hits. Another Mercury nominee, Fionn Regan, has been added to the bill. His new album 'The Shadow Of An Empire' has seen him abandon the winding acoustic melodies of his debut for the electric guitar.
Other bands already announced/confirmed include Beirut, Megafaun, Billy Bragg, Field Music, Cass McCombs, Matthew and the Atlas, O.Children, Pete Greenwood, and Voice Of The Seven Thunders.
Green Man 2010 will take place at the Glanusk Park Estate, in the Brecon Beacons. It always prides itself on a family-orientated attitude, with a designated Little Folks Area. The festival site will open for camping at 10am on Aug. 19.
Tickets can be purchased here, and cost £120 ($179) for adults, £104 ($155) for students, and a bargain £50 ($75) for teens (all plus booking fees).
