Also on the bill are dance group UNKLE, Bernard Sumner's new band Bad Lieutenant, local upstarts the Whip and post-punk veterans A Certain Ratio. The pick of Manchester's DJ talent is also on hand at an event which encompasses two arenas, including sets from former Hacienda spinner Mike Pickering, Mr Scruff, Justin Robertson and Unabombers, plus appearances from DJ posse Scratch Perverts and ex-New Order bassist Peter Hook.
The gig is being promoted by Mancunian venue the Warehouse Project and is followed by another all-dayer on the Saturday, with more stages and a line-up yet to be revealed and aimed at the city's student body.
The weekender marks a step-up for Platt Fields, which itself marks its 100th anniversary and has in the past hosted the city's Eid and Mela festivals and an annual fireworks display. Fresh off the back of a European tour, Brown has also announced summer appearances at the Rockness and Benicassim festivals.
