Little Boots Kicks Off US Tour in New York

Little BootsLittle Boots kicked off her US tour and celebrated the Stateside release of her full-length debut, 'Hands,' with a sold-out show at New York's Highline Ballroom on Tuesday night. Along with Brooklyn natives Class Actress, led by Elizabeth Harper, the double-bill brought an earful of slinky and playful electro-pop.

Although often compared to Kylie Minogue, Little Boots -- aka Victoria Hesketh -- seemed to be channeling Stevie Nicks during the first part of her concert. Each back-up musician arrived onstage wearing a hooded cloak, somberly supporting the headlining act as she opened with 'Ghost.' Immediately afterward, she threw off her metallic cape to reveal a dramatic gold mini dress. "Do you want to party?" she asked the audience. "Because we're gagging for it!"

The pint-sized UK songstress carried a star-shaped tambourine and delivered spirited renditions of 'New in Town,' 'Remedy' and 'Symmetry' during the course of the night. Hesketh furiously danced across the stage in her spiked heels, when not stationed behind a Casio or keytar. The crowd was clearly smitten with Little Boots, punctuating the set with spirit fingers and shouts of "J'adore!"

The singer also had a costume change halfway during the performance, and returned wearing her cloak and a jeweled mask. Hesketh then ran her fingers through lasers placed at the center of the stage, waving her gloved hands through the beams of light as if she was playing a futuristic harp.

Despite the space-age stage trappings, Little Boots still reminded the audience she was fairly down to earth. The British pop star played a new piano tune, called 'Echoes,' that she compared to a vampire love story. "Does anyone like the 'Twilight' books," she inquired, "or is that douchey?" After singing the urgent ballad, Hesketh closed the night with her breakthrough single, 'Stuck on Repeat.'

Vic was playing a Laser Harp; it is not just a stage gag. It is an actual musical instrument that reacts to the placement of her hands in the beams.

Lasers for the show and Laser Harp provided by Lightwave ( lasershows.net ) This was the first time a laser of this power level had been paired with the laser harp. Expect some great future surprises with this.
