Lou Reed Remasters 'Metal Machine Music'

Lou Reed has digitally remastered his notorious seventies album 'Metal Machine Music.' Now available from his website, formats include a vinyl edition that features the original's locked groove that played continuously. Reed reworked 'Metal Machine Music' from its original multi-track recordings with help from New York-based mastering guru Scott Hull. As well as the double-gatefold vinyl in quadraphonic sound, the album is available on audio DVD and Blu-ray.
On his site, the Velvet Underground founder says of the vinyl offering, "the original rear sections [have] moved to the centre of the front left/right speakers. It's worth getting a turntable to hear this."
Reed releases the album of feedback-drenched instrumentals in the UK on Apr. 19 through his independent label Sister Ray. This coincides with three gigs here by his Metal Machine Trio that start in Cambridge on Apr. 17 as part of a European tour. The group perform improvised, abstract music loosely based on, and inspired by the 1975 album.
Reed also makes an appearance on Gorillaz's forthcoming album 'Plastic Beach,', out Mar. 8, providing vocals for 'Some Kind Of Nature.' He and his wife, performance artist Laurie Anderson, are to curate the live element of this year's Vivid Sydney arts festival that begins May 27, the first time they have collaborated together on such an event.
