Superlasciva are a band from Argentina that have many different influences in their sound, from tango to rock and pop. The band started nearly a decade ago with two members and slowly grew once they moved from Goya to the capital, Buenos Aires. Originally, a friend called them "Superb" but they weren't fond about how it sounded, so they turned it up and named the band Superlasciva -- which means a sexual appetite. Spinner had the opportunity to chat with guitarist Hugo Rossi about SXSW and what he thinks the craziest thing a fan has done to meet them. Describe your sound in your own words.
We are a rock/pop band playing Britpop sounds with some heavy load of local influences, such as tango, local folk and rock.
How did your band form?
The band started with two of its current members back in the early 2000s in a small town called Goya in the Argentine province of Corrientes, and then moved to the capital city, Buenos Aires, where we now reside.
What are your musical influences?
We have been influenced by a big bunch of styles and bands. Foreign rock and pop is our basic sound -- Beatles, Pulp, Bowie, Jarvis Cocker, Wilco, et cetera, and local singers, [including] tango, local folk and rockers.
How did you come up with your band name?
After one of the early gigs, a friend said the band was "Superlativa" -- that is Superb. But that sounded too nasty, so later it turned to the current [name], Superlasciva, which means something like "sexual appetite."
What's in your festival survival kit?
Basically, we are taking with us a huge contact list and a schedule of our favorite artists' showcases and, of course, a certain bunch of dollars!
Since you are attending SXSW, have you learned anything from any of the other bands performing, like their style or songwriting?
Yes, we are permanently making research on the bands attending the SXSW, and are already in touch with many of them.
What is the craziest thing a fan has ever done to meet you guys?
Donate food on a public square.
If you could collborate with another band, dead or alive, who would it be and why?
Probably the Beatles, and probably it wouldn't be a collaboration, but a steal of information from our side!
If you weren't in a band, what do you think you would be doing?
Well, many of us have graduated from the university. But that [not being in a band] would be weird.
