Danger Mouse and Sparklehorse's 'Dark Night' Album Sees Light of Day

After almost 12 months of legal wrangling with label EMI, Danger Mouse and Sparklehorse's album, 'Dark Night of the Soul,' is finally expected to be released this summer. Due out last May, Danger Mouse instead issued a blank CD-R in protest with a sticker warning fans that the lack of music was due to "legal reasons."Speaking to BBC 6 Music, Danger Mouse -- that'll be Brian Burton to his mum -- is looking forward to the album finally coming out.
He said, "The problems of last year are last year, so hopefully it will be out soon in June or something like that."
An equally effusive EMI said that the precise release date will be made public in due course: "We can confirm that EMI are working with Brian Burton AKA Danger Mouse again, and are delighted to be doing so. Further information on releases will follow shortly."
The famed producer has worked with artists as diverse as Beck, the Black Keys and Gorillaz since first coming to prominence with his notorious mash up of the Beatles' so-called 'White Album' and Jay-Z's 'Black Album' - the appropriately labeled 'Grey Album'.
'Dark Night of the Soul' is set to feature appearances from Super Furry Animals' Gruff Rhys, the Strokes' frontman Julian Casablancas and Frank Black.
His current focus, however, is on his Broken Bells project -- a collaboration with the Shins' James Mercer.
"It's really enjoyable music to make," he said. "This reminded me of why I wanted to make music in the beginning. As long as I can keep doing it, I will. I'm not really interested in too much else right now."
