Oh Canada! You've given us so much to be thankful for: hockey, maple syrup, Bryan Adams [that one is still up for debate]. But your more recent and musically notable gem would have to be Carolyn Mark. The aspiring veterinarian, turned aspiring farmer, turned aspiring teacher, turned aspiring actress, finally found her niche as a musician. The alternative country singer-songwriter has graced many stages with various bands until she found hers alone in the limelight, as it was intended to be. Her way or the highway! We had a chance to talk Carolyn in anticipation of her stint at SXSW 2010.

Describe your sound in your own words.

I can't.

Who are your musical influences?

The Meat Purveyors [one of Austin's finest], Lucinda Williams, Bobbie Gentry.

The Beatles or the Stones?

The Stones.

Why?

Because it couldn't be the Beatles!?!

Name a musical guilty pleasure of yours. Everybody has one!

The Traveling Wilburys

Who are they?

Like this super group made of Bob Dylan, Tom Petty, Roy Orbison, and some other people.

Who was your first celeb crush?

Bobby Vinton! I was six, and I would wake up at 7:30 in the morning to see him. Then it became Bobby McGrath from 'Sesame Street,' I had a thing for Bobby's.

What's your biggest vice?

Partying.

Speaking of partying, seeing how you're no stranger to SXSW, name one item in your survival kit.

Sunscreen, the highest you can get. I'm very, very white.
