It is, says owner Chad Comfort, a mere coincidence that his Toronto sandwich shop shares the same name as Wilco's sixth album, 'Sky Blue Sky.'It is not a coincidence, however, that the shop has started naming all the sandwiches on its menu after Wilco songs. Sandwich names range from 'Kingpin' and 'Say You Miss Me' from the 'Being There' album through to more recent songs like 'One Wing' and 'Sonny Feeling'. Sky Blue Sky, on busy Bloor Street in Toronto, also has Wilco posters adorning the walls.
The most expensive sandwiches on the menu, at CAN$4.99 ($4.85/£3.20), include 'One Wing' (turkey with cream cheese and cranberry sauce), 'California Stars' (chicken, mayonnaise, celery and apple) and 'Mermaid Avenue' (salmon fillets with seasoning and mayo). Rest assured vegetarian options are available too, such as 'Side With The Seeds' (roasted tomatoes, caramelized onions, cheese and mushrooms) and 'Red-Eyed and Blue' (mozzarella, onion, tomato and basil).
Spinner has given the menu a careful once-over and declared the 'Mermaid Avenue' a possible. But we must also note our disappointment that Mr Comfort and company didn't go for a punning menu. 'A Toast is Born?' 'Blue Eyed Roll?' 'Muffinsevergonnastandinmywayagain?'
