Massachusetts has plenty of fussy blue laws, but Dropkick Murphys singer Al Barr is reasonably sure there's no prohibition against his band sharing a stage with the Mighty Mighty Bosstones. Good thing: there's video evidence of their collaboration on a rowdy version of 'I'm Shipping Up to Boston.' It's from 'Live on Landsdowne, Boston, MA,' Dropkick Murphys' new CD/DVD set culled from seven performances in six days at the city's House of Blues to celebrate St. Patrick's Day 2009."As far as we know, it's perfectly legal," Barr tells Spinner with a laugh. "Mass is pretty strict about a lot of things, but I'm pretty sure we can get away with that, or at least, we did." He also says that inviting the Bosstones to help out on 'I'm Shipping Up to Boston' was a natural choice.
"We had done a bunch of shows with them a year earlier, some shows on the East Coast and some shows in California, and we had them come up for 'Shipping,' so we knew it was going to work," Barr says. "They gave this band its first national tour when no one knew who the hell we were, so it was very cool to have it come kind of full circle."
'Live on Landsdowne' comes out March 16 on the band's Born & Bred Records. Check out the video for 'I'm Shipping Up to Boston' below.
