After being on the road with people like Young Jeezy and being a part of Bow Wow's Price of Fame Tour, Kydd Trell is ready for the release of his album 'Nights in a Lil City' in the Spring of 2010. This 22-year old has been gaining a lot of attention for his honest lyricism and fresh sound. Having appeared on shows like MTV's 'TRL,' 'Cribs' and 'Wild & Out', this young hip-hop star is earning respect and admiration from not only his fans but from fellow rappers in the industry. Spinner recently spoke with Kydd about his music and his upcoming trip to this year's SXSW.How did your band/group meet?
We all knew each other as friends when we were kids. We all grew up listening to the same music, and we all had a passion for music, so we decided to work together a few years ago, and from there we turned into a team. I have known most of these guys since I was just a kid, and I trust them and value their input and help. It's great to work with people you not only trust, but people you can call your brothers.
What are your musical influences?
I listen to a variety of music -- from Mary Mary to B.B. King and Jay Z. They all have influenced me and helped me find my passion.
Why did you chose to record under the name Kydd?
I chose Kydd because I was and still am a lot younger than the people I work with. Growing up, I was the youngest out of all of my friends and even today, I find I am the youngest out of the people I surround myself with. Everyone called me "kid" growing up, so I just stuck with it.
Who was your first celebrity crush?
I have had a lot of celebrity crushes over the years. Lately I have been crushin' on this girl named Lauren London. When I was younger, I would crush on a celebrity and it didn't mean anything, but now that I am starting to make my way through this industry, I may just have to try and get her. She's my ideal woman. If you get to talk to her, tell her I said, "Hey girl." (Laughs)
Do you have a musical guilty pleasure?
No, not really. I love all the artists I listen to, and I'd never be ashamed to own up to listening to them.
Beatles or Stones?
The Beatles. Doesn't get much more classic than that.
Describe your sound in your own words.
My sound is Midwest mixed with a little bit of the South. Listen to it, and you'll see what I mean. (Laughs)
What makes your sound unique?
What makes me unique is that I do me and me only. And there's only one me.
What's the craziest thing you've ever experienced on tour or at a show?
Oh, I've seen a lot of freaky things on tour -- and that's where I'll leave that. (Laughs)
