Jeff Beck, 'I Put a Spell on You' Feat. Joss Stone -- Song Premiere
- Posted on Mar 9th 2010 11:00AM by Benjy Eisen
Rock and Roll Hall of Fame member Jeff Beck has been enjoying a comeback of sorts. The guitarist kicked off 2010 by earning his fifth Grammy Award for a live instrumental version of the Beatles' 'A Day in the Life'; in February, he performed a series of sold-out arena dates with his peer -- and one-time rival -- Eric Clapton; and between dates of his upcoming world tour, he'll appear at a number of US festivals, including Bonnaroo. For his studio remake of Screamin' Jay Hawkins' classic 'I Put a Spell on You,' Beck enlisted the vocal talents of Joss Stone, who certainly brings her young old-soul pipes to the table. But the real spell is cast when Beck cuts in with his weathered blues hand -- with guitar playing this sharp, it could indeed rip new holes in the Albert Hall.
The track is from Beck's new studio album, 'Emotion & Commotion,' which drops in April. But you can stream the track right here, right now in this exclusive preview.

by Funk and Justice
Jeff Beck has put every ounce of tasteful tone and emotion into this version of the R&B classic. Joss Stone recreates the screaming pain of Screamin Jay Hawkins original and Jeff showcases his unique subtle tone techniques an an array of sensual contrast to Joss's plea. No one part of the song is too over the top. Great balance. Just right. Jeff Beck.
Jeff Beck seems ageless, his guitar playing is as brilliant as was back in the early seventies. I saw him last last year at the El Rey in Los Angeles last year, what an amazing musician.

March 09 2010 at 11:40 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyOver 40 years ago, i read a description of jeff Beck's guitar playing off my new Yardbird's album. It read " Jeff's guitar sounds something like a chicken chasing a steamroller" oh yes, ... this guy was an innovator then and still an innovator at 65 yrs. old. He's appreciated and played with people ranging from Diana Ross and Tina Turner to Les Paul and Pavarotti in between playing all over the world with monster musicians.
I've never missed a concert and I've never been disappointed..... the 2 things that blow me away are, he remains an innovator and i still don't have a better description of his guitar sounds.
Met him twice.... he's humble. has a great sense of humor, loves hot rods, guitars n women....in no particular order.
If the Jeff beck group is playing near you...GO! not only will you experience an incredible guitar player but his band mates are monster players too.
I recently became reacquainted with Jeff Beck when I got hold of "Live at Ronnie Scotts". He's absolutely the most creative and exciting guitar player out there today. Keep it coming Jeff!!!

March 09 2010 at 3:24 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyAs a Jeff Beck fan for more than twenty years, he is really at the top of his game; I wondered how could he possibly top what he has in the pipeline and he has answered my question with this song.
