Responding via email to Spinner's interview questions, Harlem lead singer Michael Coomers is brash, irreverent and funny as hell. Those same words apply to his group's 2008 debut album, 'Free Drugs,' a collection of gloriously shoddy garage-rock ragers. Having recently signed with indie powerhouse Matador, the Austin-based trio is gearing up to play SXSW in March and release their sophomore album later this year.
Describe your sound in your own words.
Gay disco grunge magic.
What are your musical influences?
TV and kittens.
How did you come up with your band name?
Saw it written on a candy bar wrapper in the gutter.
What's your biggest vice?
Filling out internet questionnaires on AOL chat rooms.
What's in your festival survival kit?
Sleep and a grain of salt.
Beatles or Stones?
The Shaggs.
What is the craziest thing you've seen or experienced on tour?
It's hard to see anything from the periphery of my video game system.
