Borgore Interview: SXSW 2010
- Posted on Mar 10th 2010 4:27PM by Emily Zemler
Borgore, a musician from Tel Aviv, Israel, has been involved with music since his early childhood. Now, translating his love for melding genres into being a producer of what he calls "gorestep," Borgore (nee Asef Borger) checks in before SXSW to explain his musical background and what to expect from his set. Describe your sound in your own words.
My music sounds like commercial American hip-hop and death metal being played through various farm animals.
How did you begin producing?
After my girlfriend and I broke up, my metal band took a hiatus and I went solo.
What are your musical influences?
I am classically trained, so I love music that is well made and I take my influences from all genres. Ideas for new songs can also come up from daily situations, life experiences, different types of arts and just thinking in the shower.
How did you come up with your name?
Borger is my family's name. Gore is a genre of horror films and radical metal music. Together: Borgore.
What's your biggest vice?
I am pretty lazy, in a really bad way. Things like ordering food are a mission, I usually stay hungry.
What's in your festival survival kit?
Mobile WiFi modem. I'm addicted.
Who was your first celeb crush?
Jennifer Aniston.
What's your musical guilty pleasure?
Nothing I'm ashamed of. I remixed Britney Spears and I'm proud of it!
Beatles or Stones?
Beatles any day.
What's the craziest thing you've seen or experienced while on tour?
A drunken Welsh girl fist fighting a huge guy after a rugby game.
Have you played SXSW before?
I haven't, but I've heard good things. It sounds so big I don't really know what to expect!
What do you hope to gain from your trip to SXSW this year?
Honestly, I just want to finally have some good times with people I know only from emails and profile pictures.
What can people expect from your live performance?
My trick is to spend most of my show off the stage.
