Franz Ferdinand's Alex Kapranos Not Writing a Musical

Alex Kapranos, the lead singer of Franz Ferdinand, has admitted that his plans to write a musical are just one of those fantasy projects. After a number of websites reported the comments made during an interview with Australia's Triple J radio station, Kapranos was forced into a denial through Twitter. He wrote, "I'm not writing a bloody musical. I was talking about an idea I had for one. Doesn't mean I'm going to write it."
Rather than blame excitable music journalists, he admitted culpability. "My fault! Opening my mouth and letting my imagination go etc. It was fun to chat about it though."
He carried on the theme, with other tweets stating: "I had an idea for a sitcom in a Russian abattoir. I'm not writing that either. Or the sci-fi movie script 'Time Bin.'" Another said: "But 'In Through The Outbox,' a rom-com about business rivals falling in love over internet while unaware of their real identities, is a hit."
When one of his followers informed him that 'You've Got Mail' might be able to sue for idea theft, Kapranos said, "What? They stole my bloody idea!!!"
Kapranos had told the station: "I did have this amazing idea, I've been keeping it a secret for ages! I think it would make an amazing musical."
This amazing idea, now unlikely to see the limelight of a theatre was this: "The thing is, what would make a great musical would be to pick a contemporary figure, like somebody from either current times or the last 10 years, somebody who's had a big impact. And write it about them."
Even though it now seems unlikely to happen, speculation is fun. A 'Sunset Boulevard'-esque Courtney Love affair? 'Les Miserables' with Kate Moss and Pete Doherty? 'My Fair Lady Gaga?' One can dream.
