Rainbow Bridge, an upstart band from Washington state, is about to embark on their first tour across the country, landing them at SXSW. The duo of Bridget O'Brien Smith and Adam Croce, are surfing through the States on the strength of the increasingly popular single, "Big Wave Rider." Spinner caught up with Adam. How would you describe your sound?
Aaaaahhhh. With an A. That sound.
What?
Aaaaahhhhh. That's a sound to describe a word.
Yea, I was asking how you would describe your sound in your own words.
Yea, that's the sound. Mmmmmm. Then it goes. Aaaaaahhhhh. It's hard to find the words to describe something you're close to.
Ok. That works. Who would you say are your musical influences?
The Beaters. Restless Sleep.
How did your band form?
We met in the backyard of a house made of glass.
Then ... you just started playing?
Yeah. Could Be.
How did you guys get your name?
The name was sort of- you recycle something and it returns to you. The funny thing is, I recycled something and it returned out of Bridget's mouth. She said it.
So did you say the band name and she decided to keep it?
Mmhmm.
What would you say is your biggest vice?
Advice.
No, your biggest vice.
Yea. Advice.
What do you mean by that?
What is the essence of hearing words from others and what kind of impact that has on your well-being?
Beatles or Rolling Stones?
Not the Rolling Stones.
Why Not?
I don't see it as an either or. That kind of question is baseless, but I feel like as far as composition, the scope of either of those groups is incomparable. It's one of those things that high-minded folks like to debate, but I'm not really interested.
If you could perform any song from any other artist what would it be?
Shipoopi. It's like, "Shipoopi, Shipoopi, the whoooole Shipoopi." Like that.
