Billy Corgan has begun open auditions to find a new bassist and keyboard player for the Smashing Pumpkins. Last week it was announced that bass player since 2007 Ginger Pooley would be quitting the band. Corgan resorted to the same open auditions concept last year when seeking a replacement for departed drummer Jimmy Chamberlain, himself an on-off member of the Pumpkins since he temporarily left the band 1996.
"We were lucky enough to find drummer Mike Byrne through an open auditions process," said Corgan. "So why not open the doors again to anyone who might be interested for the bass or keyboard position?"
He said, "As you can see from our past and present, age, race, or a person's background is not an issue. Everyone is truly welcome to audition."
Any ambitious young things wiling to put up with Corgan's foibles can apply to audition by emailing background information, photos and performance links to PumpkinsBass@gmail.com or PumpkinsKeys@gmail.com, with the deadline being March. 31.
As the search for musicians goes on, the Pumpkins have released the next free song in their 'Teargarden By Kaleidyscope' series, 'A Stitch In Time.'
