Admiral Radley are a mystery. They're a band that is the combined efforts of Jason Lytle and Aaron Burtch, formerly of Grandaddy, and current Earlimart members Aaron Espinoza and Ariana Murray. Their musical project is fairly recent, but holds the promise of greatness. Before their upcoming SXSW appearance, Espinoza and Lytle recently answered a few of Spinner's questions about what it is they're trying to do.

How would you describe your sound?

Jason Lytle: Sounds like music made by members of Grandaddy and Earlimart.

Aaron Espinoza: Kinda yacht punk-ish with a digital, organic feel.

How did Admiral Radley form?

JL: Members of Earlimart and Grandaddy decided to make a record together.

AE: Glue/paper/sawdust.

What are some of your musical influences?

JL: Grandaddy and Earlimart.

AE: Grandaddy, NWA, Earlimart, and Christopher Cross.

How did you come up with your band name?

JL: An anagram for Earlimart and Grandaddy.

AE: It was a gift.

What is your biggest vice?

JL: Listening to Grandaddy and Earlimart.

AE: Crack.

What have you included in your festival survival kit?

JL: Cassettes of Earlimart and Grandaddy

AR: Hair gel.

What's your guilty pleasure?

JL: Listening to old Grandaddy and Earlimart albums.

AE: The Beatles.

The Beatles or the Rolling Stones? Why?

JL: The Beatles, absolutely, [because of] Mick Jagger's chicken walk.

AE: The Beatles. Again, just a guilty pleasure.

In what ways does Admiral Radley differ from Grandaddy and Earlimart?

JL: Admiral Radley doesn't really differ from Earlimart and Grandaddy.

AE: Biology.

What have you found to be the most rewarding part of creating music?

JL: The members of Grandaddy and Earlimart getting to hang out together

AE: Watching Aaron Burtch shotgunnin' beers at the speed of light.

Is there another artist with whom you would like to collaborate or tour? Who, and why?

JL: We are already doing this.

AE: Nope.

After SXSW, what's next?

JL: Working on new Earlimart and Grandaddy albums.

AE: The saga continues ...
