The Strokes Say They Will Play Lollapalooza

The Strokes must be stoked: frontman Julian Casablancas told the Chicago Tribune that the band is set to headline Lollapalooza this summer, as has long been speculated. According to the article, Casablancas says that the band is excited because when they first broke, critics dismissed them as a passing fad. And yet, he told the Tribune, "We're getting the biggest offers of our career."Indeed, in addition to the Lollapalooza slot -- which isn't officially announced yet -- the Strokes will make their rounds on the European festival circuit this summer. With nothing else on the books, just yet, the band expects to release their next album -- their first in four years -- in the fall. In the meantime, Casablancas will continue his solo tour, including a festival stop at Coachella on April 18.
As for Lollapalooza, the Chicago Tribune speculates that Lady Gaga, Arcade Fire, Green Day and Soundgarden will be the other headliners. While we'll have to wait a few more weeks to see what the actual, full lineup looks like, Lollapalooza is scheduled to return to its Grant Park home in Chicago for three days beginning August 6. What more do we need to know?
