Little Dragon Breathes Fire at Canadian Music Fest

Little Dragon, of Gothenberg, Sweden, are one of the most overlooked bands to reach the international circuit. This should change in the months to come with guest appearances on the new Gorillaz song, 'Empire Ants', spots on TV's 'Grey's Anatomy' and multiple summer festival dates. The band fully delivered to a loyal pack of fans with a full set that broke the typical 40-minute slot allocated for Canadian Music Week / Canadian Music Fest -- such are the small joys of playing last on the bill.
Lead singer and driving force, Yukimi Nagano channeled Bjork and got down and dirty, wringling like a worm while playing a menagerie of percussion instruments from wood blocks to gongs and another drum set tucked away further towards the back of the stage. Even bassist Fredrik Källgren Wallin joined in on the drumming for a few songs, equipped with his own little kit.Yukimi swayed and swooned evocatively to the dub beat of her band of bearded lanky Swedes. Little Dragon defies to be categorized, as some tracks showed undertones of Massive Attack on tracks like 'Stranger' while others harkened to old school Swedish techno jams.
Says the half-Japanese fire-breathing wonder, "we love being experimental and make music in many different ways, we don't really have a form that we follow."
