Fresh from their first tour of the UK, Hammer No More the Fingers bassist Duncan Webster talked to Spinner about the group's trip to SXSW, which is also the band's first visit to Texas.

How did the band form?

We were all friends since we were kids and just started playing way back before high school.

How did the band get the name?

My grandfather had brought back this hammer contraption from China that held the nail in place and the catch phrase on the packaging was "Hammer No More the Fingers!"

Describe your sound.

Energetic indie rock, mixed with a little funk and jazz, a little surf.

What are the band's influences?

They Might Be Giants, Tom Petty, All, Weezer, Deerhoof.

What is one song the band likes to play live?

Our song 'Radiation' is always fun.

How does the band wind down after a show?

Lots of beer.

What was your strangest gig?

We had been asked to play this motorcycle rally in Goldsboro, North Carolina. I don't think the guy actually heard us. After we played our set, he came up to us and said "That was a good soundcheck." We had to tell him that that was our whole set. He still paid us and we took off!

Have you been to SXSW or Austin?

Never been to SXSW, Austin or even Texas! We have a lot friends that are coming down to play too, so we'll explore the city together.

What is your diet for SXSW?

Try everything we can!

What is next for the band?

We are actually going into the studio with Jay Robbins, who did our last album. It should be released in the fall.
