Consisting of a group of self-motivated musicians, PM Today is a solid example of a band simply trying to have a great time while earning fans throughout their journey. This Arkansas-based band will soon be setting out to promote their new album 'In Medias Res' before its April release date with a performance at this year's SXSW festival. In your own words, how would you describe your sound to a new listener?
I would probably say that our music is just a kind of art. We don't do anything fake or just because it's popular. We just like to play our music. It's sometimes a little dark, especially on the new stuff. And we have a rock sound, but we're also progressive at the same time.
How did you come up with the band name PM Today?
A long, long time ago we just came up with the name and just thought it sounded kind of cool was an interesting name.
How did you all meet and form the band?
Well, we used to be a cover band from ages 15 or 16 but we didn't use the name PM Today 'til later.
Who are your influences?
We're influenced by a lot of different things, even by movies. A lot of musicians have just instrumental influences but we got a lot different things that affect our sound.
Any musical guilty pleasures?
I know our guitarist likes a lot of R&B artists like Alicia Keys, but I wouldn't really consider that embarassing.
Which do you like better: the Beatles or the Rolling Stones?
The Beatles. I haven't really taken the time to listen to the Rolling Stones well.
What's the most memorable or craziest experience you've had while at a show?
When we toured with our friends Progress in Color, during a ten hour drive back home from Florida and basically had a huge food fight on the whole way back.
Do you enjoy the creative process of creating new music more than the feeling of having it finished and ready to be shared with the rest of the world?
Yeah, the feeling of having it all finished is way better.
What's the hardest lesson you've learned as a musician?
I thought touring would be a lot easier but it's actually really hard. I thought we would be able to get a booking agency, be on tour and be all set but it's a lot of hard work. And having a label that fits your sound and getting a band that's similar to yours for touring purposes.
What's in your festival survival kit?
Can't play a show without our earplugs. We just need them for hearing our voices.
