Harvard Bass Interview: SXSW 2010

DJ Harvard Bass is one of the most exciting additions to the house scene. With a mixture of ghetto and sophistication, the remixes of Victor Hugo Ramos, aka Harvard Bass, electrify the crowds and keep them jumping. The creator of such music as 'Caked,' Spinner caught up with Bass before SXSW. Describe your sound in your own words.
It's a bit of all genres thrown into a big bowl of menudo soup.
How did you get into professional music?
I used to DJ a lot in my hometown and [started] making music for fun about two years ago. I was lucky enough to be discovered by Teki Latex of TTC last year. From that came my release on his label Sound Pellegrino.
What are your musical influences?
Marc Houle, Oliver $, Christian Martin, Derrick Carter, Green Velvet
What's in your festival survival kit?
Water and Internet
What's your musical guilty pleasure?
A-ha and everything else that's '80s in that style.
What's the craziest thing you've seen or experienced while on tour?
The whole club getting into a fight during my DJ set in Oklahoma. It was insane!

Tell us about your latest music and what are you most proud about it?
Latest remixes from Aston Shuffle, Felix Cartal, and Bag Raiders. Mostly proud of the production.
