- Posted on Mar 15th 2010 1:10PM by Megan Koester
MNDR is the pseudonym of Amanda Warner, a jet-setting party gal who, along with band mate Peter Wade, creates club music that blows minds and wiggles behinds. Known for her high-energy live shows, MNDR is takin' the indie electronic world by storm with lights, sound and more hooks than you can shake a stick at. Spinner recently got the opportunity to pick the delightful Ms. MNDR's brain before her five SXSW showcases.Describe your sound in your own words.
Pop music.
How did your band form?
I was carrying too many bags around NYC and gave some CDs to [composer, producer and band mate] Peter Wade.
What are your musical influences?
Pop music, IDM [intelligent dance music], minimal techno, Krautrock, experimental music, performance art, dub and reggae.
How did you come up with your band name?
aMaNDa[R].
What's your biggest vice?
Coffee, autobiographies, movies that win Golden Globes and extreme politics.
What's in your festival survival kit?
Water, autobiographies, extreme literature and pamphlets, and general awesome vibes.
Who was your first celeb crush?
The Fonz.
What's your musical guilty pleasure?
Yes, King Crimson, Mariah Carey's "Glitter"-- on both CD and DVD -- and Jaco Pastorius, no joking.
Beatles or Stones?
Stoned Beatles.
What's the craziest thing you've seen or experienced while on tour?
I played a DIY/rave/noise/club show in Baltimore and got to watch a bunch of crust/craft punks in an orgy next to subwoofers while Dan Deacon played.
