After months of speculation, LCD Soundsystem's big cheese James Murphy has confirmed that the collective's next album -- scheduled for release on May 17 -- is likely to be their last. Speaking on Tuesday (March 15) to Radio 1 presenter Zane Lowe, Murphy viewed the next LCD Soundsystem as being the band's swan song.He said: 'I think it is [the last album], and l I feel good about it.
"It's not like a negative thing. I think that it's nice to feel like it's the last one and we'll tour really hard and then go do something else."
Asked if knowing that the album was to be LCD Soundsystem's last made the recording process a bittersweet experience, Murphy replied, "Yeah, very much so but only in the second half.
"I was just like, you know, make a record, kind of like 'trying to make a record mode'. And then when I get back to New York it was getting to the end of it and all the other things started happening, the typical 'you gotta get your artwork in' and all this other stuff."
He said, "I just decided it's been a while since I wanted to worry about any of that stuff. So, as much as I love making the record and going on tour and everything like that, I was like, 'Man, if I have to worry about this stuff anymore', you know? So it just seemed like perfect we'll make this the last record and we'll do exactly what we want and go out happy."
As previously reported on Spinner, LCD Soundsystem embark on an eight-date tour of the UK at the O2 Brixton Academy on April 23 before winding up at Bristol's O2 Academy on May 2.
