Keane's Tom Chaplin Turns to Golf After Drug Problems

For some addicts, it's a case of the 12 steps but for Keane frontman Tom Chaplin, 18 holes are what's needed to keep him on the straight and narrow. Following in the footsteps of Iggy Pop and Alice Cooper, Chaplin has become obsessed with golf and credits the game with keeping him sober.Chaplin was admitted to the Priory clinic in London in 2006 after battling numerous substance addictions and his subsequent interest in the fairways has seen him develop a handicap of eight.
Speaking to the Sun, Chaplin revealed how shock rocker Alice Cooper became a sporting role model. He said: "I am actually quite obsessed with it."
"When Alice Cooper needed to give up booze he said, 'What the hell am I going to do if I can't drink?', so he started playing golf and became completely obsessed with it -- and that's kind of the same as what happened to me."
Chaplin added that he was unsure whether he'd take his new hobby to the same lengths as Cooper. "Alice's whole tour schedule is built around playing golf. I don't know if the same thing is going to happen for Keane, but it certainly gives me some relief."
