Casino Are Delivered From Personal Tragedy to Professional Triumph at SXSW

I had an interesting encounter at the Chilean Music Showcase on Saturday night at SXSW. While waiting in line for a beer I noticed the singer from one of the bands, Casino. I introduced myself and told him I liked their set. I asked if he was playing the earthquake benefit at the Parish on the following Tuesday night. He then told me his own earthquake experience, the terror he encountered as he ran for his life from the crumbling structure which was once his home. Needless to say he lost everything.
I asked him why he came to SXSW. He said that he was musician and his band had a gig; it was important to him to play, that he was using the music as a way not only to help him forget, but also to help him heal.
