Dave Grohl Caffeine Overdose Was No Joke
- Posted on Mar 24th 2010 6:30AM by Julian Marszalek
On top of video evidence of excessive caffeine abuse, Them Crooked Vultures drummer and Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl has revealed that he really did overdose on caffeine and that its teeth-grinding effects necessitated the aid of medical help.Following a report on Spinner, many fans had assumed that the video and OD claim had been part of a promotional prank, but speaking with Absolute Radio ahead of the Teenage Cancer Trust charity gig at the Royal Albert Hall on March 22, Grohl admitted his coffee intake became so great so that he was taken to hospital.
"We were in the studio making a record and I was drinking a lot of coffee," he explained.
"I was doing Vultures stuff at night, Foo Fighters stuff during the day and I had a newborn at home, so I was sleeping two-three hours a night on an air mattress in a guest bedroom," he continued.
"And yeah, I had too much coffee, I started to get chest pains so I went to the hospital and they told me to stop drinking so much coffee."
Grohl went on to confirm that the OD occurred during the recording of the supergroup's eponymous debut album last year. And he confirmed there are plans to record its follow-up.
"We all really want to get on and keep on going so it's just a matter of playing roulette with the calendar," said guitarist Josh Homme.

Her name was Ellen White. If you don't know her, maybe you should.

Caffeine overdose can do more than just cause anxiety, chest pain or heart palpitations ... working as an ICU nurse more than ten years ago a man came in unresponsive with blood pressure & heart rate through the roof after a suicide attempt. A drug toxicology screen for typical drugs of abuse came back negative ... and for more than a week this poor man suffered with the same symptoms despite hemodialysis everyday. Finally his girlfriend came in with two empty boxes of a "no doze" type caffeine pill (he had taken all at once). Caffeine isn't removed from your blood by dialysis -- it took plasmaphoresis to remove it. After that he woke up, his wacked out vital signs vanished, and eventually he went home a very happy camper (he had regretted his rash actions but by that time he was unable to tell anyone). Caffeine is a dangerous drug that can kill in excess -- watch your intake people!

I am an RN at a county ER and we have seen young people die of cardiac arrhythmias...irritable hearts...due to over comsumption of caffeine. Another horrible drink for the heart is the combination of Red Bull with Vodka or combined with any alcoholic drink. I think it will take the death of a celebrity drinking these deadly drinks before the public becomes aware of the dangers.

I never knew an overcaffinated person to their grind teeth.
I never knew a crankster who didn't.
A simple trip to his primary care physician would have been sufficient. Why is it so many people run to the hospital ER for things like this? This kind of stupidity is what burdens the medical system as a whole. Get a grip America.
March 25 2010 at 2:04 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyThis is no joke. I bought a product from gnc years ago... I think it was called Hot Rox? They were red capsules that gave you tons of energy for your work out and made you too sick to eat basically. After a month of taking them I would get major shooting pains in my heart that sent me straight to the ground. Too much caffeine can kill.

It was too much caffeine and stress from a family matter. If I drink anymore than 2 cups of coffee, I get palpitations. So keep your opinions to yourself unless you know what you're talking about.
March 25 2010 at 1:33 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyFrom reading the article it sounds more like stress than a caffeine overdose, if there really is such a thing. Caffeine very well may have antagonized things but a caffeine overdose?
March 25 2010 at 12:00 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyWhat a bunch of kaka. Caffiene is only a very mild stimulant, so mild you can give it to a baby without side effects. I drink 13 pots of coffee a day and i'm not dead yet. If it were so bad, the government would ban it.
