Josh Homme Supports Record Store Day With Video Message

In these days of downloads, file sharing and Rock Band, it's easy to forget that there's a whole wide world of actual physical music beyond your front door. The new poster boy for the latest campaign to go crate-digging is Them Crooked Vultures/Queens of the Stone Age frontman Josh Homme, who has been signed up as ambassador for this year's Record Store Day.Taking place on April 17, Record Store Day encourages music fans to visit their local independent record store and sample the joys and treasures contained within. The day will be celebrated through a combination of live in-store appearances and special one-off releases only available in participating stores on the day itself.
In a rousing -- and frequently hilarious -- call-to-arms video, Homme says, "Indie record stores are a hotbed of discovery -- and bacteria -- for music lovers both young and old, filled with aisles and aisles of hot and tasty gems, imports, picture discs ... all to help you develop that sense of individuality as you come to that age where it's time to discover your own theme music."
He continues, "There's only two ingredients necessary on Independent Record Store Day: that's you and the independent record store. Put those ingredients together and give yourself and your loved ones the 'eargasm' you deserve."
According to LedZeppelinNews.com, Them Crooked Vultures, whose members also include former Led Zeppelin bassist John Paul Jones and Foo Fighters' big cheese Dave Grohl, will release a 10" picture-disc single on vinyl of 'Mind Eraser, No Chaser' and 'Highway One,' which will be backed with an audio interview.
