It may be stating the obvious, but Led Zeppelin will not reunite and tour this summer. Not that they ever planned to, but the rumors have been persistent for the last, oh, 30 years or so. The good news is that fans will still get a chance to see Robert Plant perform this summer, as the iconic frontman leads a new band of gypsies -- actual name: the Band of Joy -- across America for a 12-city tour.Plant will use these dates to showcase tunes from an upcoming album with this latest project, which will be released by Rounder Records later this year. "I'm enjoying such creativity and vitality," says Plant in a statement. "It's been a remarkable change of direction for all of us and as a group we all seem to have developed a new groove."
And, indeed, his little group does seem to include some merry musicians. Nobody is "filling in" for the role of Jimmy Page, per-se, but the notable roster includes: Patty Griffin, Buddy Miller, Darrell Scott, Byron House and Marco Giovano.
Robert Plant and the Band of Joy will kick off their initial run on July 13 in Memphis and will wrap it on July 31 in Miami. More dates are expected to follow. Oh, and as for the other reunion rumor, there may be some truth to that one: Plant says he still sees Allison Krauss all the time.
