Hip-hop legends Cypress Hill have long incorporated rock riffs into their rap songs. But on the rabble-rousing title track to their upcoming album 'Rise Up,' the old-school trio team up with equally iconic Rage Against the Machine guitarist Tom Morello, who also co-wrote and co-produced the cut.
"We did the bulk of [the album], but after we got halfway, we said, 'Let's try some different things,' B-Real tells Spinner. "We thought we should try collaborating with Tom Morello, which was a natural fit. We reached out and he gave us two great tracks."
B-Real says the Morello collaborations (which also includes 'Shut 'Em Down') sparked the album's other rock-tinged tracks, including 'Trouble Seeker' with System of a Down's Daron Malakian and 'Carry Me Away' featuring Mike Shinoda of Linkin Park.
The stylized video for 'Rise Up' marks a welcome return from Cypress Hill after six years off the mountain, and should whet appetites for the new album which is available on, yep, 4/20.
