Vanilla Ice Confirmed for Glastonbury

If there's one thing that fans can rely on at the Glastonbury Festival then it's its unpredictability. Be it the weather, the new experiences or the fact that fans don't even know who is going to be playing when they buy their tickets, the one thing to expect is the unexpected. This year is proving to be no different. While the bulk of the acts appearing are subject to rumour and speculation, it's been confirmed via MySpace that none other than Vanilla Ice -- yes, that's Vanilla Ice of 'Ice Ice Baby' fame and Jedward collaborations -- is set to appear at one of the bar stages dotted across the festival site on June 24.
No sniggering at the back there! It's easy to forget that 'Ice Ice Baby' became the first hip-hop single to score pole position on the Billboard charts back in 1990, while the track's parent album, 'To the Extreme,' topped the Billboard 200 chart where it resided for a further 16 weeks and shifted 11 million copies.
Despite his success, Vanilla Ice attempted suicide in 1994 with a cocktail of narcotics before turning his life around. He's subsequently released more albums including 'Hard To Swallow' and 'Bi-Polar' that have revealed a more rock-orientated sound -- but you can pretty much guarantee that it'll be 'Ice Ice Baby' that rocks the house at Glastonbury.

Good for Vanilla Ice. For him to be around this long in the music scene is definitely an accomplishment to be proud of.
For all of you haters on here, at least he is doing something that he loves and making a living at it, how many of us can make that claim ?

Beastie Boys at one time were viewed on the same level as Vanilla Ice till Licensed to Ill dropped and Paul's Boutique was released as a follow-up. What happened was that the record execs pressured VI to lie about his background and when it discovered that VI was just some random kid who could rap, not with any street cred, VI got owned.
I hope the crowd decides to be open minded and allow VI to do his thing. I so happen to have caught VI in LA a few years ago when he was working with a thrash band and he was quite good.
How apropo. He is to music, what haggis is to food.
