Tally Hall Hoping to Release New Record This Summer

Michigan indie-pop band Tally Hall have been touring incessantly around their debut album, 'Marvin's Marvelous Mechanical Museum,' which they released in 2005 on Quack Media, but after a major label deal with Atlantic, the album was re-released in 2008. Since then, it's taken on a life of its own. Needless to say, the band is anxious to get some of its new material out there. "I'm hoping it'll be out in the summer," guitarist Rob Cantor tells Spinner. "But that's utter speculation." That said, Cantor confirms that the new album is entitled 'Good & Evil' and contains 14 tracks. While Cantor didn't describe in detail how the songs sound, he seems positive regarding the band's evolution.
"It's hard for me to say without sounding pretentious, but I feel like our songwriting has come a long way," he says. "From a technical standpoint, this album sounds worlds better than 'Marvin's.' We produced 'Marvin's' ourselves in a garage in Ann Arbor that we transformed into a recording studio. We made it for a shoestring budget."
The band tapped producer Tony Hoffer to help them out this time, whose previous work includes recent Beck albums as well as a Tally Hall favorite, Belle and Sebastian's 'The Life Pursuit.' "We were totally psyched," he says of Hoffer's participation. "We made a list of dream producers and he was on that list. He got a couple demos and he emailed us back and said he really liked it."
