Protest the Hero Return to the Stone Age: Road Report
- Posted on Apr 1st 2010 5:30PM by Rody Walker
Canadian prog-metal heroes Protest the Hero have set out across the country headlining the annual SnoCore tour, despite the fact that most of the snow is already departed. Still, the core remains and PtH's lead singer Rody Walker is blogging the band's excellent adventures for Spinner. In the second installment, Walker catches a child in a lie, travels back to the stone age and shows off his knowledge of Klingon insults.
Day 4 - Toronto
We once again drove through the night to reach our destination, however this time our destination was home... For some of us.
I woke up on the bus, alone and frightened. Then I realized I was at the Sound Academy [in Toronto] and I returned to my usual state of sheer apathy.
Not a whole hell of a lot happened. Our friends and families all came out and we just chilled out.
After everyone left [bassist] Arif came into the back room with around fifteen people I had never seen before. I got into a conversation with one girl. It turns out she was born in 1992, I had a laugh and reminisced about the Jays winning the World Series -- she claimed she remembered it, but I knew she was a stupid lying child.
Day 5 - Thunder Bay
After an obscene amount of hours on the road we finally arrived in Thunder Bay [Ontario]. If you have never been to Thunder Bay before, it's essentially like going back to the stone age.
It was cold and dreary out and it smelled of stale piss everywhere.
I set out for a Play It Again Sports in need of some stupid s---. After about a mile of walking I came across the guys from Abandon All Ships in their bus, they picked me up and drove me the rest of the way. It was super sweet.
I always have a lot of fun playing in Thunder Bay, and tonight was no exception. The crowd was fun and the energy in the room was great.
We had to start driving almost directly after the show so that's that.
Day 6 - Winnipeg
The day started in a super wonderful fashion: we had to back the bus into a narrow little alleyway. It was nauseating.
Then we loaded all the gear in, and PetaQ and I went to find something to eat. His real name is Peter but PetaQ is a derogatory Klingon word.
We had some friends who came out to the show. I won't mention what band they are in because I don't believe they would want to be mentioned. Regardless, these fellas are the reason we play music. They inspired us when we were very young and with every release they continue to inspire us. It's almost strange to know them as friends now.
Anyway, we went to the bar with our friends and had some drinks, I don't really recall anything that happened, I've really just woken up.
