The Hold Steady have lost some of the piano and keyboard work that was integral to past records due to the departure of Franz Nicolay, but they continue to add weight to their familiar formula through the always-solid lyricism of singer Craig Finn. "She said the theme of this party's the Industrial Age," he snarls over a bed of music that alternates between a quicker U2 sounding verse and crunchy, stadium-ready chorus. "And you came in dressed like a train wreck."
