Surfer Blood Perform at Amoeba Records but Leave Their Vinyl at Home

If you're digging in the record bins for some Surfer Blood, you won't have to dig deep. Not only is their new album, 'Astro Coast,' all the rage right now, it's also their only album. On vinyl or CD, you can find it in virtually any record store... that is, if you can still find a record store."I really like shopping for records," frontman J.P. Pitts tells Spinner. "We don't do enough of it on tour, because this tour is two months long and any vinyl we'd buy would be destroyed in the van -- either from heat or just by us being reckless."
The band themselves spent much of Thursday afternoon inside the legendary Amoeba Records in San Francisco, but they weren't exactly there to search through the stacks. Surfer Blood performed a riveting set of music, showcasing much of 'Astro Coast' live for fans, record collectors and lucky randoms. With the band positioned on the in-store stage, the audience crammed the aisles all the way to the back sections where Amoeba has rare heavy metal and obscure reggae selections.
"They gave us store credit, so I was pretty psyched on that -- but I'm so overwhelmed by the selection, I just don't know what to get," says Pitts. "I should've made a list or something before I came here." Possibly, yeah. But if he asked anybody in the store for advice, there's a good chance they would've just handed him 'Astro Coast.' Indeed, it's a good place to start (and comes highly recommended).
