Titled 'A Dissertation on White Noise,' Pitchfork (via Paper) reports it will take place at New York gallery Partners & Spade on Sunday, April 11.
The cost is $30 (£19.80) per child. Given that children of that age are unlikely to know who Sonic Youth are, what a dissertation is, or what white noise is, it seems it may be parents on an educational/hipster bent sending their children along.
After the lecture there will be a Q&A session, and all proceeds from the event will go into the coffers of the art program at P.S. 126, a New York School. Those who wish to attend are encouraged to RSVP to firstname.lastname@example.org.
The lecture forms part of Avant Garde Preschool, a series of events aimed at getting children involved and interested in art.
This isn't Moore's first foray into academia. Last year Spinner reported that he had set up his own publishing house, Ecstatic Peace (also the name of his record label). He edited the 2005 book 'Mix Tape: The Art of Cassette Culture', and reviews music in Arthur Magazine.
Sonic Youth will be touring later in the month, meanwhile. The dates are:
Barcelona Razzmatazz, Spain (April 18)
Madrid La Riviera, Spain (April 19)
Madrid La Riviera, Spain (April 20)
Lisbon Coliseum, Portugal (April 22)
Porto Coliseum, Portugal (April 23)
