Thom Yorke is currently making the rounds with his side project Atoms of Peace, and Monday night he premiered a new untitled track on electric guitar during the first show of their inaugural US tour. Performing at New York City's Roseland Ballroom, Yorke led his band through a set that prominently featured 2006's 'The Eraser' and a slew of newer tracks such as 'The Daily Mail,' 'Judge, Jury & Executioner' and 'Feeling Pulled Apart by Horses.' The new song opened Yorke's encore and is being referred to as either 'Chris Hodge' or 'Let Me Take Control' by Radiohead fan site At Ease."Walk down the staircase," sang Yorke, stripped of all band flourishes and standing alone. "A magnetic pole/Back to the other place/I can not go/Let me take control/Secrets to be told."
Totally uplifting, right? The new song sounds similar to Radiohead tracks such as 'Reckoner,' gliding around a series of minor chords with a slinky guitar part that alternates between bass pulses and a slide lead.
Two songs later, Yorke sat at the piano for a stunning solo version of the 'Kid A' track 'Everything in Its Right Place,' a rare treat indeed. Then the full band, which features Flea from the Red Hot Chili Peppers and producer Nigel Godrich, returned to the stage to close out the night with five more numbers.
Check out a clip of the new song below.
