Nine Inch Nails' 'Pretty Hate Machine' Due for Rerelease

The history of Nine Inch Nails' much-celebrated debut 'Pretty Hate Machine' sure hasn't been pretty. Through a series of legal entanglements with original label TVT records, the album was out of print from 1997 to 2005. Rykodisc reissued it for a brief moment in 2005, but it's since been out of print and, most importantly, unavailable through digital retailers. Now, that's all about to change. Billboard.biz reports that Los Angeles-based music publishing firm Bicycle Music has acquired the master recordings to 'Pretty Hate Machine' from Prudential Securities Credit Corporation. Yes, you read correctly.
Prudential has been holding on to numerous TVT master recordings, including 'Pretty Hate Machine,' after TVT failed to repay a loan to the banking company for $23.5 million. Although there's no timetable as to when we might see the reissue, this still is great news for any Nine Inch Nails fans. In 2005, Trent Reznor wanted a deluxe offering of the LP but Rykodisc wouldn't to pony up for it. Now, we could see that deluxe offering, and knowing Reznor with his crazy release options of late, this could end up being worth the wait. Regardless of what form it materializes in, Bicycle Music has confirmed that it will see the light of day.
While 2009 was a busy year for Nine Inch Nails in regards to touring in support of 2008's 'The Slip,' 2010 sees Reznor working on new material, as well as a deluxe offering of 1999's 'The Fragile.' He's also been making some extra cash by unloading gear on eBay -- but at least now he doesn't have to worry about saving up to buy his own album back.

Interesting - could you cite where you got that bit about Trent Reznor wanting a deluxe offering of the LP, and the bit about Rykodisc not wanting to pay for it? I didn't see anywhere in the Billboard article about that. Thanks so much.
