Rolling Stones Releasing 'Exile' Outtake as Record Store Day Single

Mick JaggerAfter about a half century of healthy competition, the Rolling Stones are still going head-to-head with the Beatles. Coming off the recent announcement that John, Paul, George and Ringo will attract shoppers to independent record stores with a new vinyl single, the Rolling Stones are following suit with a limited-edition 7-inch for release on Record Store Day on April 17.

The A-side, 'Plundered My Soul,' is a recently unearthed track from the sessions for the Stones' classic 'Exile on Main Street' album. With a reissue of that record set for May 18, 'Plundered My Soul' will be the first single. For a B-side, fans will get a remastered version of 'All Down the Line,' a rollicking, saxophone-infused rocker that originally appeared on the final side of 'Exile on Main Street' when it was released in 1971. The May reissue will sport 'Plundered My Soul' and nine other never-before-released tracks -- a big deal as this routinely ranks as one of the best albums and eras in the Stones' storied history.

"Well, basically it's the record and a few tracks we found when we were plundering the vaults," Keith Richards explained to Rolling Stone. "Listening back to everything we said, 'Well, this would be an interesting addition.'"

The Record Store Day single will be the official premiere of 'Plundered My Soul,' and each copy will be individually numbered for collectors. A week later, on April 24, the track will be released to radio stations and followed with a brand new music video.

I love both bands a lot..two of the best ever. Avispcc the Beatles were a lot more than just pop. Ever heard "A Day In the Life"?

The Beatles and Stones were both friends and rivals. Nothing wrong with that. There was always a lot of press talk about how the Beatles outsold the Stones through the 60s and beyond, but in fairness that's a tough comparison...The Beatles outsold every recording act in history. You could throw Elvis, Michael Jackson, Madonna, Jay-Z, Led Zeppelin next to the Beatles and the result is the same. I'm thrilled to hear the Stones are releasing new songs from that era, can't wait to hear them. I always wonder what it would be like to discover that one of the great bands had recorded a full album 40+ years ago and never told anyone...now that would be fun.

I have been a fan since I was a boy listening to High Tide and Green Grass. From the first time I heard that album, I was a fan for life. I have seen the Stones 10 times live, and have never regretted attending these Great events. If they come round again, it is a safe bet, I will buy some tickets and go. If only for the chance to revisit one more time..Its only rock & roll, but I love it!

Just finished reading "The Rolling Stones. An Oral History" by Alan Lysaght. The book confirms that the Beatles & Stones were good friends and admired each other as artists. Glad to hear the Stones are raiding the vaults, bet there is some great stuff yet to be found.

The Stones are not "still going head to head with the Beatles". The Beatles haven't been together or released anything new in nearly 40 years. The Stones certainly have.
Besides, the Stones vs Beatles was all media BS hype of the day. If you ever saw any interviews with any of them when the so called rivalry was mentioned they all said they're good friends. Besides their respective sounds were so different there wasn't any ground for rivalry.
On the original 3D cover of Their Satanic Majesty's Request
if you look around through all of the stuff there's a sign that says "Welcome Beatles". Does that sound like rivalry or competition?

The BEST rock and roll band ever.....have seen them a few times and if they come to town again....will be there. They put on a heck of a show and their music and lyrics are incredible.....ie...sympanthy for the devil, as tears go by, wild horses.....Not just 'pop' like the Beatles!!

Sadly, this is one band that I never got to see in person. I love them. I've replaced Let It Bleed 3 times, and need to again. I do hope they play some small place, and I just happen to be lucky enough to see go there. There music has been such a part of my life. I bought my first album at 18 and I am way older than that now.

Amazing that the Stones are still out there doing their thing and doing it well. I saw the Stones in the 70's and thought Kieth Richards was already dead, but no one had told him to lay down. Now, almost 40 years later they are still touring and putting out records. GO STONES!!!
