With all the songs written for the earthquake victims in Haiti and bands donating signed memorabilia for other causes, it's not too surprising when a band wants to give back. However, TOMS Shoes wanted to do something a little different with the company's annual One Day Without Shoes. The footwear company, which donates shoes to a child in need for every pair it sells, is asking people to spend even a few minutes on April 8 barefoot to "spread awareness of the impact shoes can bring a child's life." TOMS Shoes recently enlisted the help of bands like the Surfer Blood, Band of Skulls, Riverboat Gamblers, Sliimy, Chew Lips, the Antlers and Yacht to promote the cause.
"There are people around the world who go through life without something as simple as a pair of shoes," Surfer Blood frontman John Paul Pitts says in TOMS' promo video. "We plan to perform barefoot."
Bands like Hanson have been big supporters of the TOMS Shoes cause for some time. The trio organized a barefoot walk before each show on last year's tour and donated $1 for every fan who participated.
